What is ONCHAINID?

Glossary · Compliance

ONCHAINID is the on-chain identity layer used by permissioned security-token standards such as T-REX (ERC-3643). Each holder has an identity contract storing signed claims — verified identity, jurisdiction, investor status — issued by trusted parties. The token's compliance rules read those claims to decide whether a transfer is allowed.

Also called: ONCHAINID · on-chain identity · identity contract · identity registry

How identity gates a transfer

A wallet address proves nothing about who controls it. An ONCHAINID contract links the wallet to claims signed by issuers the token's issuer trusts. On every transfer the token asks the identity registry whether both parties hold the required valid claims; if either fails, the transfer reverts. Compliance is enforced by the asset itself rather than by a gatekeeper the market has to take on trust.

What it does not expose

The on-chain claim is a signed assertion that a check passed — not the documents behind it. Personal data stays off-chain with the claim issuer. That design is what lets a public chain carry a regulated instrument: verifiable eligibility without publishing an investor's file to the world.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an ONCHAINID to hold a security token?

For ERC-3643 tokens, yes — the token checks for a registered identity carrying valid claims before it will accept a transfer.

Is personal data stored on-chain?

No. The identity contract holds signed claims attesting that verification happened; the underlying documents remain off-chain with the verifier.
